Tearing my hair out after upgrade

Postby elsparkodiablo » Mon Apr 06, 2015 12:11 pm

I recently upgraded from version 11 to v12 and am having all sorts of issues that are irritating the hell out of me to put it lightly.

With the addition of responsive templates, I figured I would give some of the stock themes a try. Not wanting to experiment on my live store I set up a demo site on shopsites servers. Shopsite has PHP disabled on their test servers so there was only so much testing I could do before resorting to experimenting in a production environment.

So, I have a couple sandbox pages on my live server and am experimenting with the production environment and shopsites stock templates are not functioning as expected.

There are a number of issues that I've found. My most pressing concern right now is that the navigation bar does not resize to a mobile friendly version.

Example: http://a-demo-store.com/ssdemos/ver121/evaluate31/index.html - test site on shopsites server, navigation bar auto reformats

Test page on my server: http://www.onestopknifeshop.com/store/nolinks.html - Navigation bar does not reformat for my site

I've resorted to using the stock SS BB templates, and switched to the "Dauntless" theme CSS by selecting #000008 under layout preferences in the back end but nothing I do seems to be working.

Any pointers?

This is caused by HTML in a text only field. The text field is being used in the store's javascript file, and is breaking the javascript. If you go to Preferences > Store Text > Store Pages, you can remove the HTML from the "View Cart" text field, and that will fix the issue.

Thanks for the help with resolving those issues.

From what I understand from email conversations with SS support staff, Preferences > Layout Settings > Header is supposed to default to a new line underneath the the company logo. It doesn't appear to be doing that on my http://www.onestopknifeshop.com/store/nolinks.html page, or on the demo site I have set up: http://a-demo-store.com/ssdemos/ver121/evaluate31/index.html

Is that a bug or am I misunderstanding things?

Most themes added in version 12 sp1 do have the header on its own line, but 2 or 3 don't. Most merchants want the header to the side of the logo so they can add sales, a phone number, or other general header information easily, however since anything can go in the header field, from one line of text or one image, to the entire header contents, it is most common for the templates to put the header on its own line. I'm fairly confident at least 12 of the 17 new themes put the header on its own line, I would have to test the others to be certain of the last 5.

In your store, if you want the header to be on its own line instead of next to the logo, you can add the following code to your store header:

<style type="text/css">
div#dl-logoin, div#dl-headerin {clear: both; display: block; height: auto; max-width: 100%;}
</style>

I'll just put it in the footer.

Lauren, any plans on incorporating Bootstrap functionality & components to future templates? I've been researching Bootstrap today, specifically the navbar component - http://getbootstrap.com/components/#navbar
combined with the dropdowns
http://getbootstrap.com/components/#dropdowns
look like something worth experimenting with

I have experimented with Bootstrap as well. It might be in future themes. Certainly designers would be able to build themes using Bootstrap in ShopSite stores.

Yeah, I think I'm going to try to incorporate bootstraps framework into the dauntless them and get a floating navbar operational (if possible).
