LinkPoint email regarding new Discover Card CID requirements
Version: v6 and newer
Product: ALL
Platform: ALL
We are using LinkPoint/Cardservice International for our real-time credit card processor in ShopSite. Recently (approximately October 14th 2003) we received an e-mail from LinkPoint saying all shopping carts must submit the Discover CID information for all Discover card transactions. Is there anything we need to do to ShopSite in order to comply with this email?
Solution ID: S5486
ShopSite is already capable of sending this information to LinkPoint. If your ShopSite's Cardservice International/LinkPoint settings (located in ShopSite's Commerce Setup -> Payment -> Configure Processor menu) have the "Display CVV2 Entry Box" and "Require CVV2 Entry" checkboxes checked, then the ShopSite shopping cart will require that shoppers enter this number from their card and will send the CID/CVV2 value to the credit card processing gateway along with the other card information for every credit card transaction, including Discover transactions. No additional changes to the software should be necessary.
The following is the text of the email sent by LinkPoint to all LinkPoint Gateway merchants:

Subject: Important Discover CID Information from LinkPoint
Dear Valued Merchant,
You recently received a notice informing you about the introduction of the Discover?Card Identification Code (called Discover CID). The LinkPoint Gateway is now ready to accept Discover CID codes.
If you accept Discover, please note:
--If you are prepared to send these codes, please begin sending them now.
--If you have not yet made the changes required to send them, please do so as soon as possible.
--Within the next few weeks, you will begin to receive response codes when you submit a Discover CID code with a transaction.
Discover CID is a 3-digit code found on the back of the card on the signature line, similar to the CVV2 and CVC2 codes for Visa and MasterCard currently used as a protective measure to help prevent fraud.
In October 2003, Discover Financial Services is requiring all merchants to provide the CID code for ALL Discover transactions. If you are using a shopping cart, merchants must ensure their shopping cart software is updated to support this new requirement. Check with your e-commerce store software vendor for details.
To use the Discover CID code, you need to follow the same process you use today to provide the Visa and MasterCard card code. Simply enter (or transmit) the 3-digit code in the "Card Code" field.
--LinkPoint Basic users who bypass the payment form should use the "cvm" and "cvmnotpres" fields.
--LinkPoint API merchants should use the "cvmvalue" and the "cvmindicator" fields.
Please refer to product documentation (available at www.linkpoint.com/support) as the LinkPoint products are released for further information.
If you do not currently accept Discover and would like to add this service to your account, please contact your merchant service provider.
We thank you for your business, and wish you the best in yours.
Sincerely,
LinkPoint Support
