PayPal process question

Postby Nikolaus Gruchot » Thu Dec 02, 2004 4:23 am

Hello,

ShopSite v7.1.1

-> Customer selects PayPal as payment option
-> Customer enters shipping/invoice address
-> Customer sees confirm order screen and clicks on continue
-> Customer is forwarded to PayPal for the payment
-> ??

1. When does the customer see the order confirmation page?
2. Does he see the ocp at all?
3. When does the customer gets the email receipt?
4. Does he see the er at all?

We do see the order in the back-office only when paypal payment is complete.
I do understand this from the shopsite documentation.

Thank you,

Niko

1. When does the customer see the order confirmation page?
What do you mean by confirmation page? In 7.x there is a confirmation

page that can be enable and is displayed immediately after entering
their address information and before they are directed to PayPal. This
allows them to verify that the address information they entered is correct.
If you are meaning the "Thank You" page they will never see one from
ShopSite because they are redirected to PayPal to finalize the order.
They will get an email from PayPal saying that they have made a payment.
2. Does he see the ocp at all?
See above
3. When does the customer gets the email receipt?
After the order has cleared PayPal. This may be almost instantly in the

case of a PayPal to PayPal transaction or could be a couple of weeks if
the shopper pays through PayPal by using a check.
The order is not finalize in ShopSite and the merchant will not see it
in the backoffice until PayPal sends a confirmation to the ShopSite
store that the payment has been transferred to the merchants PayPal account
4. Does he see the er at all?
See above.

Hello Jim,

this information is what I was looking for. I have now changed our shop so
that we have a comprehensible flow in the ordering process.

-> Customer selects PayPal as payment option in the Shopping cart
-> Customer enters shipping/invoice address on the CheckOut screen
-> Customer sees confirm order screen and clicks on "Proceed" to place the
order
-> Customer is forwarded to PayPal for the payment
-> Customer completes PayPal payment process
-> *Customer is forwarded to a page of our store that explains, that an
email confirmation will only be sent when the PP payment process is complete
and that only paid orders can be seen and processed by us.

*Link to this page is set at -> Commerce setup -> Payment [x] PayPal ->
Configure -> Return URL

I guess the order is also only added to the customer profile (if any) when
the order is paid for through PayPal? If so, I need to add this information
in our shops help screens.

Thank you,

Niko

Just to add:

If the Customer is not using a Confirmed Address with Paypal, you will
not receive a notice of an order from ShopSite and it will not appear in
your orders. Instead you will receive an email from Paypal notifying you
that a payment has been made. You will then need to go to Paypal, accept
the order, and then ShopSite generates the order and you receive the
Email Order Confirmation.

This only happens if you have your PayPal's Profile -> Payment Receiving
Preferences setting labeled "Block payments from U.S. users who do not
provide a Confirmed Address" set to the "Ask Me" radio button setting. I
do not believe this is the default in most PayPal accounts, so most
people will never experience this unless they have changed this setting
so that PayPal waits on your approval before clearing these transaction.
