This is still a huge issue with my site and it's to there point where i'm going to have to get rid of a lot of my coupons just to "fix" this issue. The coupons are slowing down the upload of products substantially. Is there any fix on the horizon for this problem?

* A multiple codes for the same coupon patch would fix this issue and would be very easy for shopsite to implement. That way each group of people that have a coupon can still feel special with their unique code but the coupon would not kill our database.
_________________
http://www.mtgotraders.com
Ok, I searched and couldn't find anything on this topic. Whenever I add a new page to my site, the name of the store (in the preferences section) gets changed to whatever the new page name is. This means that if I forget to fix it, that the tab in MSIE will show something silly like "Bath Items at New In Store" instead of Bath Items at The Romance Store.

Version is 8.3. Can anyone else duplicate this problem?
Okay, I fixed it.

Really, all I had to do was look a little closer at the code and realize that I was still using an old variable from a now-defunct iteration of the site. I had "storeid2" in where "storeid should be. Lame.

That is all. Just wanted to post a happy-resolution reply. This comes under the heading of "is it plugged in?" Duh.
Couple of other way:

Go to Merchandising -> OrderAnywhere, select the product in question, and click Show Selected HTML. The add to cart URL or form should include an itemnum= parameter, and the value of that is the products internal record id.

You could also go to the Products menu (and click List All Products, if you have ShopSite Pro), and then view the HTML source of this menu. The product names are what appear in the list, but as you can see by the source of the list box, the record numbers are used as the form values when you select them and click any of the form submits. So just find the product name in the source and look at the value in the form field HTML next to it.
you can also publish the page with the product on it. the publish-results page lists product names with their respective product numbers listed after a colon, even though they're not specifically identified.

That's what I do, anyway. Ghetto, right?
Subject: Search problem from the Shopping Cart
Posted: Thu Jul 03, 2008 11:54 am (GMT -7)

I've been working on my templates, and somehow I broke my shopping cart's search function. I've put in an exact copy of the INPUT string I use on the non-cart pages, but am coming up with the following whenever I enter a search string:

Code:

Error in Form!

We're sorry, but there was an error in your form data!

You must specify a valid value for: your storeid .

Please go back and try it again.

Annoying. I'm sure there's something I'm missing, but I can't find it. I'm looking at other cart templates to see if I can figure it out, but probably someone here has a faster answer than I'll find.

Thanks in advance.
Posted: Thu Jul 03, 2008 11:20 am (GMT -7)

I started a Shopsite store a couple months ago, and I found a great certified developer who helped me get it off the ground. However, he's really difficult to reach for questions/help, so I am hoping there's someone here who likes taking on side projects.

I am a designer, not a developer. My store has a custom template, which eradicated any help from Shopsite or FatCow (my host). The site is a baby products site, and we're live, but needing code tweaks here and there. I am specifically looking for a Shopsite developer who can provide intermittent tech support. Currently, we're having some issues with the More Info pages and order status.

I am in Boston, MA, but I don't need to meet you in person; I'm very comfortable communicating via IM or email. I would need to know your contract rate, of course.

Hoping that someone might be out there...

I don't think you can see it in the back office (even with power edit).

Two options to see the record number;

1. Download your product data. Record number can be included in the download.

2. If you want to see the record number on screen it's a bit more complicated. Create a custom page and a product template that includes [--Product.RecordNumber--], assign all products to that page and essentially generate an onscreen report showing all your products and their associated record numbers.
We've used it for a year and have had no significant problems.
1. Reliable, yes.
2. Yes
3. Yes

We have been getting small difference when we generate UPS labels on our "ups computer" where the rate might be 25 cents different or something like than.

We also have issues with the commerical vs. residential rates as Shopsite does not allow the shopper to specify if each shipping address is residential or commercial so we end up with pages of corrections by UPS on our UPS bill. Usually it balances out with charges and credits.
We have found out that the reason we could not make this work is that Ipower.com has our directories hidden. We had this problem with them early on, and it seems that while they unhid what was there, anything new is hidden automatically. As such, our site works fine, but we can't call some of our pictures by the URL and therefore can't use the URL in the text of the HTML we are using. We also can't use FTP to back up the whole site, since some is hidden. In their effort to help, they just hid the whole store directory, and needed to escalate the matter. Is it usual to have the store directory hidden from FTP on other ISP's?
_________________
Richard E. Hurd
Subject: New Google Analytics with custom template
Posted: Wed Jul 02, 2008 10:23 am (GMT -7)

Hi,

I'm trying to implement the new Google Analtyics e-commerce tracking using custom cart templates. I have the ShopSite Javascript extras tag in the head of the cart pages and can see the cart variables properly populated with my cart values when I view source. But I can't get those variables to display for testing in the head or the body using alert([shopsite variable]); or document.write([shopsite variable]); and GA is not showing any e-commerce info tracking.

I'm trying to build the right string for the new Google analytics and being able to confirm the values are available correctly is required, given the 12-24 hour lag between a transaction and it showing up in GA.

Why is thankyou.cgi only displaying the javascript code rather than processing it for alert() or document.write()?

Anyone have suggestions for troubleshooting/testing?

Thanks.
It might be possible. In the ShopSite help search for the term "Multi" and it will bring up how to create a custom template that will add several items to the cart at once. YOu would need to do a similar thing in your pages where you put the Order Anywhere links.
This is because excel incorrectly saves tab delimited files with quote marks around the data. See the following kbase article that tells you how to work around this issue.

I have a page on my site that uses an order anywhere link to add a product to a shopping cart. I would like to also add a checkbox to this page so that the customer can add additional items at one time.

For instance, the product to be purchased is software. I want to have a checkbox on the page that's labeled 'Add installation for $75'. The installation is set up as a product in SS, so the customer would actually be adding two items to the cart when clicking the button: the software and the installation.

Is this possible?
I am uploading products to ShopSite 8 via an Excel spreadsheet saved as a tab delimited file. Everything uploads fine except for the name of each product has quotes around it when it uploads. On the spreadsheet under the Name column they are listed simply as Widget 1 but it comes up on ShopSite as "Widget 1".

These quotations do not appear in Excel or when the tab delimited file is opened in Notepad. Anyone know why this is showing up?

Ship Works isn't really what I would define as an add-on program, it's more of a stand alone program that allows you to set it up to work and communicate with your cart to download your orders into the program to create shipping labels, packing slips and other things.
