March 2011 email from Google Product Search regarding deprecation of the Google Base API

Product: Manager and Pro
Version: ShopSite 10 sp2 r2 and earlier
Platform: ALL

I received an email notification from 'The Google Merchant Center Team' that the Google Base API that I have been using to submit my ShopSite products to Google Product Search will no longer work starting June 1st, 2011. Does this affect my ShopSite? Is there anything that I need to do?

In March 2011, ShopSite merchants using the 'API' submission method in ShopSite's Google Product Search feature received a notice from Google Product Search regarding the discontinuance of the Google Base API  beginning June 1st, 2011.

This will affect merchants who are using the API submission method in ShopSite 10 sp2 r2 and earlier.  Merchants who are using the FTP submission method should not be affected.

ShopSite 11, released for the Linux server platform on 1 June 2011, changes the API submission method to use the new Content API in place of the Google Base API. To upgrade to ShopSite 11, merchants should request the upgrade of their ShopSite through their ShopSite reseller/hosting provider.

Affected merchants with ShopSite 10 sp2 r2 and earlier who can't or don't upgrade to ShopSite 11 can switch to using the FTP submission method after June 1st, 2011 to continue to submit products to Google Product Search.  Documentation on setting up your Google Merchant Center account and your ShopSite to use the FTP submission method can be found in the 'Register your FTP Upload File' section of the online documentation here:

A portion of the email from Google Product Search to merchants is as follows:

==========================================
Hello,

Thank you for participating in Google Shopping. According to our records, you're currently using the Google Base Data API to submit your product listings to Google Product Search. On December 17, 2010, we announced the retirement of the Google Base Data API and transition to the new Google Content API for Shopping (http://googlemerchantblog.blogspot.com/2010/12/new-shopping-apis-and-deprecation-of.html).

Starting from June 1st, 2011, it will no longer be possible to submit content using the Google Base Data API. In order for you items to continue appearing in Google Product Search results without interruption, we encourage you to start transitioning to the new Content API as soon as possible.

The following resources will guide you through the transition:

The Google Merchant Center Team
