Why am I receiving an Internal Server Error on my browser receipt when I try to use a credit card with my VeriSign (Signio) account?

Product: SC
Version: 4.3 and earlier
Platform: ALL

Note: Signio is now VeriSign Payment Services. The ShopSite 4.2 and 4.3 screens still use the Signio name. Pre-4.2 versions still use the PaymentNet name.

I've set up my VeriSign payment processor account and I've confirmed with VeriSign that I have the proper information entered in my ShopSite settings screen. However, when I try to place a test order with a live credit card, I receive an Internal Server Error on the web browser receipt (thankyou.cgi).

Pre-5.0 versions of ShopSite used the 1.0 version of VeriSign's processing software. ShopSite v5.0 uses the 2.0 version of VeriSign's software. The 1.0 version is fully compatible if the merchant's bank uses Nashville as their VeriSign processor, as many banks did. However, this error may result if the payment bank is using a processor other than Nashville.
To find out the processor your bank uses:

1. Login to your VeriSign account at https://manager.signio.com/
2. Select Account Info > Processor Info
3. You will see a blue table. In the first bar under "This is your processor configuration." is the name of the processor used by your bank.

The VeriSign processing code in ShopSite 5.0 has been completely revised. To resolve this issue, either switch to a bank that uses Nashville processing or ask your CSP partner to upgrade your store to ShopSite 5.0.

Upgrading is highly recommend to allow merchants to take full advantage of all combined ShopSite and VeriSign features. ShopSite upgrading details are available at: http://www.shopsite.com/help/install.html
