There are about 16,000,000 colors that you can display with the HTML hex codes, but there are only so many colors that Netscape understands, so many that IE understands, so many that Windows, Mac, etc. understand. You put them all together and they only overlap on 216 colors. These are known as the "web-safe colors".
It's recommended that designers only use these colors in web pages and any images put on the web. If you use any colors other than these, the person visiting the site with a browser/platform that doesn't know about that color will see the closest color as interpreted by their system.

Colors will default to the ShopSite settings unless the HTML inserted into the text fields indicates otherwise. Look for a listing of web safe colors (ShopSite Color Reference Chart) on the Customize Order System page under your ShopSite version @ http://www.shopsite.com/help .
