phone number in shipping as required field

Many shipping companies require a phone number. Can this field be changed to be required?

This is not possible with v6.x and earlier. There is an open enhancement request to add the ability to determine which customer-prompted fields are required. For now the only workaround would be to change the text of "Phone Number" to be "Phone Number (required)". ShopSite would still allow the order to be placed without that information filled in, but the customer would be more likely to fill it in.
